How To Clean Walls

August 30, 2018

Most people think about dusting the surfaces of their furniture, but rarely do people consider dusting their walls. Dust walls?!? I hear you exclaim, punctuated with prolific interrobangs. The fact is, walls get dusty. Very dusty. And over time, that dust combines with ambient humidity, smoke residue from nearby forest and mountain fires (this means you, Utah and California), and oils from grubby fingers to leave your paint dingy (at the very least).

The good news is that dusting your walls needn’t be a cumbersome task. Simply run the dry head of a microfiber mop along the wall, starting at the ceiling and working your way down. You’ll be shocked at the amount of dust, dirt, pet hair, human hair and other little surprises you’ll discover on the used mop-head.

Take note that much of the debris will fall onto the floor below, so make sure to dust walls before you dust the furniture or do the vacuuming.

When your carpets need blitzing from all that floating dust, give BCS a call at 801 561 1730 to schedule your deep carpet cleaning treatment.

How To Clean Wooden Plastic Window Blinds

August 30, 2018

If you’re anything like me, I put off cleaning blinds until they’re almost at the point of cloning themselves with dust. Blinds can be fiddly business! But with this week’s top tip from BCS Cleaning Utah, your blinds will be spit-spot and top-notch in no time.

1 Cut a microfiber cloth in half and wrap each piece around one side of a pair of kitchen tongs, before securing with rubber bands.

2 When you’re ready to clean your blinds, get your hand slightly wet and wipe it across the microfiber contact surface. The very-slightly damp microfiber gives you even better dust grab-ability.

3 Place each slat between the cloth-clad tongs and swipe across to dust.

4 For very dirty blinds, run the brush attachment on your vacuum over the blinds to suck up the worst of it, then use the tongs to finish up.

And hey presto, spick and span blinds in a jiffy! If all that dust has settled on your pristine carpet below, give BCS Cleaning Utah a call today to schedule your next deep carpet cleaning – 801 561 1730.

How To Remove Grease Oil From Stovetops Vent Hoods

August 15, 2018

Grease and oil residue from cooking can seem like a nightmare to remove from cooking surfaces and vent hoods. But with our simple, unexpected tip, you’ll have both sparkling again in a jiffy!

To remove oil from vent hoods and cooking surfaces, cooking oil can work wonders. And yes, I know this concept sounds strange (to say the least), but oil is often the best substance to soften and lift existing oil.

Simply moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and rub the grease until it’s gone. Buff to a shine with a clean, soft cloth to remove any remaining residue.

How To Remove Scuffs On Walls

August 15, 2018

If you’ve ever been to Home Depot for paint and had the paint chap try to up-sell you to the Uber-Pigment-Double-Primer-Easy-Wipe paint option that’s a mere $30 extra per gallon, and had the gall to stick to your guns and the cheaper paint option, you’re not alone. And well done, you! And then six months later, when you discover a plethora of scuff marks all over your walls that (shockingly) don’t come off with soap and water, you slightly kick yourself for not having made life easier on yourself and bought the super-upgraded paint option.

All is not lost, however! You’ve come to the right place. At BCS Cleaning Utah, we are experts on All Things Cleaning, and we have three easy-peasy solutions for all your wall scuffage issues.

1 Mr Clean Magic Eraser sponges. If you’ve never used these, they are a MIRACLE invention. Simply dampen the sponge and rub over scuffs, scratches, marks – basically any foreign body clinging to your walls – and watch them disappear.

2 If you don’t have a Magic Eraser sponge or they’re against your principles or you’ve tried them and they didn’t work, non-gel toothpaste may be the magical solution to all your wall-related woes. Squeeze some onto a cloth, massage it over the scuff or stain, and then rinse and dry. Toothpaste is mildly abrasive, and the tiny little beads contained in each squirt will gently and evenly remove foreign bodies from your walls.

3 If you’ve tried the above and neither worked, or for some reason BOTH are against your principles, try making a thick paste with baking soda and water. Apply it to the wall on a soft, clean cloth, massage into the mark and then rinse and dry.

How To Easily Remove Dust Hair Crumbs From Sofas

August 15, 2018

Sofas are a big happy place. They’re snuggly, cosy, soft and comforting, all of which makes them an almost-immediate go-to when you get home from work (or to work from!). But the plentiful breakfast, lunches, snacks and snuggles result in a sprawl of dust, hair, crumbs and general microscopic detritus that accumulates to fill your sofa with itchies and pokies at the most inopportune moments. But have no fear – BCS Cleaning Utah is here with two easy-peasy suggestions that will have your sofa up to snuff in a jiffy.

1 Sticky lint rollers are one of the most versatile tools in the business. Keep one within arm’s reach of your sofa to quickly swipe over cushions, grabbing hair and crumbs alike and restoring your sofa to its former cuddlesome glory in the process.

2 Microfiber cloths are a similarly genius (and underused) product. Grab a clean, dry microfiber cloth, get your hand wet and swipe it across the surface of the cloth. Whisk this across the surface of your couch and underneath the cushions for easy and effective hair removal.

And there you have it! Two smashing tips from the kings of house cleaning – BCS Cleaning Utah. Give us a call today at 801 561 1730 to schedule your next through couch and carpet cleaning.

How Do I Remove Cat Drool Saliva Stains From My Sofa Couch?

August 1, 2018

Oh, the joys of cat ownership! Cuddles and loving, squinty eyes are lovely, but they don’t quite eliminate the irritation of finding a nice puddle of kitty drool staining your sofa.

Drool is a bit fiddly to deal with because it is a protein-based stain that may also contain tiny bits of food. At BCS, we’re experts at handling the unadvertised horrors of feline yucky saliva stains from your sofa. Here’s our 3-step drool attack process:

1 Combine half a cup of hydrogen peroxide (3%) with one teaspoon of ammonia. Apply to the stain with a clean, dry cloth, taking care not to soak the sofa fabric. Be sure to test the solution in an inconspicuous area first.

2 Allow to sit for 30 minutes, then blot with clean paper towels.

3 Apply cool water to the area, then absorb the liquid and dry the area by applying repeated pressure to a thick pad of paper towels laid over the area.

If after employing these suggestions you’re still struggling with saliva stains, or if the stains are older and seem to be set in the sofa, call BCS today at 801 561 1730. We’ll have your couch set to rights in a jiffy.
