How To Maintain Your Rugs & Carpets – Small Cotton Rugs

September 27, 2018

If you knew what horrors we at BCS have seen and how many pounds (eek!) of dirt and grime were lurking in your carpets, you might think before walking around barefoot. Wool rugs are particularly masterful at hiding dirt, and this debris can actually damage the structure of the rug over time. Follow our simple steps to keeping all your synthetic, cotton, wool, small, large and installed carpets and rugs at the best between professional cleanings.

In this article, we’ll show you how to clean small, cotton area rugs.

1 Wash colorfast rugs by hand in the kitchen sink with a mild detergent, using a sponge or soft brush.

2 Rinse thoroughly with water mixed with a small amount of white vinegar to remove any remaining residue. The vinegar also serves to naturally and gently sanitize.

3 Roll the rug inside a thick towel to wick away moisture, then stand on it remove as much liquid as you can.

4 Hang the rug (outside, if possible) so it dries as quickly as possible, thus avoiding nasty stale water smells.

In our next article, we will show you how to give small, wool area rugs the kid glove treatment.

When your willpower and stamina for touchups is exhausted, call the professionals at BCS Cleaning Utah at 801 561 1730 to schedule your professional carpet and rug cleaning treatment. We’ll bring out the big guns to have your rugs and carpets looking professionally fabulous in no time.

How To Maintain Your Clean Windows – Interior

September 20, 2018

Want to keep your windows looking freshly-washed for longer? Follow our simple, two-part guide over the next two weeks to learn how to easily keep your windows looking all glittery for longer.

In this article, we’ll show you how to have the inside face of your windows back to peerless sparkledom within thirty minutes (tea-breaks notwithstanding).

1 Make your own cleaning solution.

Plain old white vinegar and rubbing alcohol are two miracle products that will help you power through your windows in a jiffy. Vinegar is a potent cleaner, while rubbing alcohol helps the cleaning solution to dry quickly and streak-free. Mix together 1.5 cups water, 1.5 tbspns white vinegar, 1.5 tblspns rubbing alcohol, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (so your nose doesn’t turn up from all that potent sniffiness!). Use a funnel to pour into and combine in a clean spray bottle. Mark the outside with sharpie so you remember what it is!

2 Use the right amount of product.

Most people make the mistake of over saturating a surface with cleaning solution. When you spray too liberally, you end up spending much more time wiping off the excess rather than actually cleaning. Instead, simply mist the surface of the windows with your fancy homemade cleaning solution, and then wipe with a squeegee or microfiber cloth folded into quarters. This folding technique maximizes surface area, so when one side of your cloth is dirty and wet, you can simply refold it and flip it over to reveal a clean side. And hey presto, eight cleaning cloths in one!

When your willpower and stamina for touchups is exhausted, call the professionals at BCS Cleaning Utah at 801 561 1730 to schedule your professional window cleaning treatment. We’ll bring out the big guns to have your windows looking professionally fabulous in no time.

How To Maintain Your Clean Windows – Exterior

September 20, 2018

Want to keep your windows looking freshly-washed for longer? Follow our simple, two-part guide over the next two weeks to learn how to easily keep your windows looking all glittery for longer.

In this article, we’ll show you how to have the outside face of your windows back to peerless sparkledom within an hour.

1 Make your own cleaning solution.

For the outsides of your windows, you’ll need a stronger cleaning solution than for the insides. Rubbing alcohol and Castille soap are your friends for the task, and the combination will help you power through your windows in a jiffy. Mix together 4 tbspns Castille soap, 4 tbspns rubbing alcohol and 1/2 gallon warm water.

2 Use the right amount of product.

Most people make the mistake of over saturating a surface with cleaning solution. When you apply the product too liberally, you end up spending much more time wiping off the excess rather than actually cleaning. Using the sponge side of a double-sided squeegee, apply the solution to your window panes (do not oversaturate). A great sneaky tip to catch excess dirty water run-off is to roll up a towel and place it at the base of the window to catch drips as you wipe down the windows with the squeegee’s rubber edge. Work from left to right, top to bottom; try to keep the squeegee in constant contact with the window surface – this will help avoid squeegee-imprints. Wipe down with a soft dry microfiber cloth to remove any errant drips or streaks.

In our next article, we will show you how to clean the insides of your windows in under thirty minutes.

When your willpower and stamina for touchups is exhausted, call the professionals at BCS Cleaning Utah at 801 561 1730 to schedule your professional window cleaning treatment. We’ll bring out the big guns to have your windows looking professionally fabulous in no time.

How To Remove Tea Stains From Cotton Sofas

September 6, 2018

The leaves are turning and an early morning chill is in the air….it’s finally time for Fall! And you know what Fall means…..tea! And you know what tea means…..spills! (Did you see that coming a mile off??) Tea stains are ubiquitous with the season, but if you’ve inadvertently anointed your sofa with the Nectar of the Gods, have no fear – follow our simple guide to tea-stain eradication and you’ll be back to sipping serenity in no time.

Firstly, if your sofa is a synthetic material or ANYTHING other than cotton, don’t try messing with the mark yourself – it’s time to call in the professionals. We don’t say this lightly – synthetic materials respond differently to natural fibers and your innocent efforts to reclaim your sofa could easily result in anguish. Call the Utah experts at BCS immediately to schedule your professional cleaning.

If, however, your sofa is cotton or another natural fiber (or should we say ‘fibre’?), spray the tea stain with a vinegar mix (one teaspoon of white vinegar in one liter of water) and allow to sit for ten minutes. Then simply blot and rinse well with plenty of fresh water, before washing removable cotton covers as normal. Be sure to air-dry (you only make the mistake of tumble drying cotton sofa covers once!).

If the stain stubbornly persists, it’s time to call in the pros at BCS – call us today at 801 561 1730.
