Should I Vacuum My Carpet After It’s Professionally Cleaned?

October 30, 2019

This is a great question, and one not many people think of. We’re always for vacuuming! It restores the pile of your carpet, keeps it clean and smelling pleasant, and removes potential staining agents. And who doesn’t love those ‘just-vacuumed’ tracks the vacuum cleaner leaves behind? Ooo makes you feel so good inside…..

That being said, although vacuuming post-professional-clean is not strictly necessary, there are a couple of big benefits if you do decide to.

Firstly, as carpet dries after being deep cleaned, it can sometimes wick up dirt that was too deep to reach from the base of the carpet to its surface. Vacuuming when the carpet is completely dry removes this last bit of dirt and ensures your carpet lasts even longer until its next deep clean.

Secondly, professional cleaning involves getting the carpet thoroughly wet with cleaning agents and then sucking most of them back out again – the remainder being left to airdry. This can affect how the pile of the carpet lays; vacuuming soon after the carpet is dry restores the pile to its plump, fully-fluffed state, giving you better-looking, softer carpet to walk on.

How To Deodorize Carpet

October 23, 2019

Carpets can be both beautiful and functional, but with their abundance of absorbent fibers, they can also soak up undesirable smells. Follow our quick, green process to remove nasty stinkies from your lovely soft carpets.

You will need:

½ cup baking soda

½ cup borax

1 tspn ground spices (Cinnamon is a great option to try on dark carpets – DO NOT USE on light-colored carpets as it may stain; essential oils may be used instead)

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and store in a dry, well-ventilated place in an airtight container. Sprinkle the mix on stinky carpet and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. The baking soda is a powerful smell absorber, especially of pet smells.

Vacuum thoroughly after thirty minutes and you will be left with just the delicious scent of warm spices.

How Quickly Does Mold Grow In Carpet?

October 16, 2019

The answer to this question is very subjective, as it depends on so many factors.

Most places will say mold develops within 24 to 48 hours, but remediation specialists will often tell you that those numbers are highly subjective and that mold often doesn’t start until many days later, sometimes as many as 18 days later!

In the Salt Lake Valley and Park City, we are blessed (depending on your perspective!) with a very dry atmosphere, thanks to our high elevation, desert location and high amount of salt, so damp is much less of an issue for us than for most of the US. Even when prevailing damp IS an issue, due to a pipe break or water spillage or some other reason, mold takes a lot longer to take hold here than it does in other places.

The bottom line is: if you’ve had a pipe burst in your home and your carpets have been flooded, you don’t need to panic that if they’re not bone dry within a day or two you’ll have vast alien colonies of mold proliferating with reckless abandon throughout your home. That simply won’t happen. The worst that will happen in that timeframe is that your home (and specifically the wet area) will smell damp and unpleasant, and the carpet itself may be damaged or stained. But destructive mold takes longer to develop, especially in the dry conditions we experience year-round in Utah.

That being said, mold development is not 100% predictable, so it’s worth getting the damp issue fixed as quickly as possible.  And the sooner you have your carpets professionally cleaned, the less likely it is that stains will permanently set in. BCS Cleaning Utah are specialists in both cleaning and removing middling amounts of excess water from carpets. How Long Does Carpet Last?

October 9, 2019

In the average household (2-4 people), a carpet will usually last about 3-5 years. By this point, most carpet fibers will have become old and frayed from use. Stains will also have sunk in, often dulling the initial color of your carpet.

You can extend the life of your carpet exponentially with regular maintenance (thorough vacuuming and spot-cleaning) and by having it professionally cleaned once or twice a year. Professional cleaning removes deep dirt, stains, and odors, as well as restoring the pile of the carpet and protecting the base of your carpet and underlay from chemicals or dirt that, left unchecked, can eat either or both away.

How Do I Clean Carpet Stains From Muddy Cat Paws?

October 2, 2019

Oh, the joys of cat ownership! Cuddles and loving, squinty eyes are lovely, but they don’t quite eliminate the irritation of finding a procession of conveniently-situated muddy pawprints tracked over your carpet.

At BCS, we’ve been handling the unadvertised horrors of feline ownership for our clients for over thirty years. Here’s the lowdown on how to remove pesky pawprint stains from carpet:

1 Remove any dried mud carefully with a handheld vacuum. Be careful not to push the mud further into the carpet.

2 Create a solution of one part plain white vinegar and two parts water. Spray liberally over the affected area.

3 Blot dry using clean paper towels.

If after employing this very complicated method you’re still struggling with pawprint stains, or if the stains are older and seem to be set in the carpet, call BCS today at 801 561 1730. We’ll have your carpet set to rights in a jiffy.
