Can I Clean My Own Windows With A Steamer Steaming Machine?

March 25, 2020

Yes!

At BCS, we love using steam to clean all kinds of surfaces. Steam cleaning is one of the quickest and easiest ways to clean windows without harsh or irritating chemicals. They’re brilliant at loosening and removing crusty, nasty buildups without a shred of elbow grease in sight, and the superheated steam leaves the surface clean and sanitary. Steam is also safe for children, pets and allergic-adults as it doesn’t need to use any chemical additives, and the steam vapor easily removes winter buildup, grease, oil and fingerprints from dirty windows. Because steam cleaning doesn’t need detergents, chemicals or fancypants window-cleaning products, there’s also no chance of having to wrestle with a window streaked with cleaning agents. Steam cleaning also sanitizes and kills most household germs. Bonus!

Of course, they are usually rather large machines and tend to be somewhat unwieldy, especially when you’re trying to work on a vertical surface rather than floors. This can be quickly tiring to arms and backs, so that’s something to bear in mind before you relegate yourself to bed or the chiropractor’s office after steam-cleaning your own windows.

Park City, Heber and the Salt Lake City Valley get more than their fair share of gunk buildup on windows over the winter. If you’re determined to give steam-cleaning a try, here are our suggestion for steam-cleaning your own windows.

1 Fill the steam cleaning machine with water to the marked level on the machine’s holding tank. Plug in the machine to allow the water to heat up and become vapor.

2 Hold the steam cleaning wand in your hand. Pull the trigger or push the button to activate the steam. This is the exciting bit!

3 As the steam vapor pours out of the wand, run it across the window’s width. This loosens any ickiness on the window’s surface. Work down the window until you have fully cleaned and sanitized it with steam.

4 Using a soft, clean, dry, microfiber cloth, immediately wipe the window down, starting at the top and working down horizontally. If your cloth becomes too wet, use a new dry cloth. Continue wiping the window until it is dry.

5  Repeat with the outside of the window.

And hey presto, you’ve steamed to the finish with sparkling clean windows! Theoretically.

If you meet any issues or the whole process just gets you all steamed up, give the experts at BCS a call at 801 561 1730 – we’ll steam right over to your rescue!

How Should I Prepare My Carpets For Professional Cleaning?

March 18, 2020

We want your carpet cleaning experience to be as efficient, speedy and effervescently wonderful as possible. There’s a few things you can do even before we arrive to make your carpet cleaning even better.

1 Vacuum the carpeted areas to be cleaned. This lifts surface dirt and dust from the carpet and enables our sprays and vacuums to penetrate even further and remove even more dirt from your carpets.

2 Remove wobbly, breakable items like tabletop lamps and brick‐a‐brac, and place them somewhere safe while we’re cleaning.

3 Remove as many small pieces of furniture as possible, such as dining chairs, ottomans, and small tables from the areas you’d like us to clean. This enables us to reach more areas more thoroughly with our specialist cleaning equipment.

4 Secure floor-length curtains and drapes at least two feet off the floor using a clip or hanger. This makes it easier to reach the areas under your window and ensures your curtains are protected.

Please let our technician know BEFORE we start cleaning about any cleaning concerns that you may have, particularly about specific spots or stains. Your carpet cleaning specialist is trained in many specialized spot-cleaning procedures and if you know what caused the stain, that will help us to give your carpet more personalized attention and clean it even more thoroughly.

How Do I Clean & Remove Bird Poop From My Windows?

March 11, 2020

It’s always rather irritated me that birds insist on pooping on the OUTSIDE of the window pane – you know, in just the spot where it’s hardest to reach without a giant ladder, extraordinary balancing skills and an arsenal of buckets, mops and non-scratchy scratchy products. Also, how do they even hit the window? I mean, it’s not like their butts are on the side of their bodies! It’s really quite a feat of engineering that they even manage to poop sideways while in mid-flight. I could go on, but I shall restrain myself. Also, I realize the alternative to them pooping outside is that they would poop INSIDE, which raises with it a whole host of other issues, like for example, ew.

The easiest way to remove the usually-crusty remains of a bird’s breakfast is to use a steam cleaning machine. That being said, who is realistically going to clamber up the side of a house while balance precariously on a ladder and wielding an intermittently-puffing piece of machinery? Apart from us trained gymnasts at BCS, of course.

If the above prospect doesn’t much appeal to you, the second best way would be to use a bucket of warm water with a few drops of dishwashing detergent and a squirt of white vinegar. Use a soft, clean, microfiber cloth soaked in the cleaning solution and hold it on the birdy poop for a few seconds to loosen it. Wipe any solids off with a clean side of the cloth. Wipe clean with a clean, damp chamois cloth. And hey presto, good as new!

Of course, there’s always the chance that all this scrubbing on the side of a ladder will lead to sudden death or a nasty headache at the very least, so our recommendation is to leave the bird business where it is and give BCS a call at 801 561 1730. We’ll have the bird innards off your glass in a New York minute, with no death required!

How to Spring-Clean Your Laminate Floors

March 4, 2020

Ah, the joys of spring cleaning! Said no one, ever. Apart from maybe a very determined and slightly OCD mole who lived near a riverbank somewhere in England.

The term ‘spring cleaning’ conjures up all kinds of images: clean, uncluttered surfaces and storage areas, strange little headscarfs that only come out from the drawer once a year, overwhelming top-to-toe cleaning sessions. And that’s just the kitchen! Your floors need special treatment too. Whether you have hardwood, laminate, tile, carpet, or vinyl, there are some easy floor treatments that will help you restore your floor to tippety-top condition.

BCS are experts in cleaning all types of flooring surfaces and we’re bouncing up and down to share with you some of our top tips and secrets for getting your floors Spring-ready in a jiffy!

Laminate Floor Treatments

•Begin your laminate floor treatment by sweeping or vacuuming the entire floor area. If needed, use a vacuum attachment to get all the sneaky nasties out of the edges and corners.

•Dilute a wood-cleaning product in a clean bucket, taking care to follow the instructions on the package. For laminate floors, you can also use a mild solution of hot water with either PineSol or bleach and a few drops of dish soap.

•Using a damp sponge, rag mop or (our favorite) a microfiber mop, dip it into the cleaning product and wash the floor with it. Avoid leaving standing water.

•If needed, rinse the floor off with plain hot water by filling a bucket with water and using a clean mop.

•Wipe up any excess water. This is extremely important with laminate floors, as excess water left to stand on the surface can seep between the joins and warp the panels.

Part of the appeal of laminate flooring is the ease with which they can be cleaned. But if the thought of wielding a mop or steaming machine makes you break out in a cold sweat, give the professionals at BCS a call at 801 561 1730. We’ll have your floors spruced up for you in a jiffy, with not a mop-bucket in sight!
