1   You probably saw this coming, but the simple answer is firstly to hire a pro for a proper deep clean every few years. Larger rugs are by nature harder to clean thoroughly with home tools and products than smaller rugs, simply because they don’t fit in the sink or washing machine (duh), and even if they did, their size makes them difficult to place somewhere they can dry thoroughly and quickly. If possible, try not to walk on your carpet at all until it is dry, especially if it is a deep pile – this will help your carpets fibers dry as plump as possible, rather than drying all squished-down from being walked on.
