Help! My Vacuum Cleaner Isn't Sucking! | BCS Cleaning Specialists

Disaster! Mayhem! Crumbs everywhere! At the very least, if your vacuum sucks (because it doesn’t), it’s extraordinarily annoying. After all, you set aside this afternoon for cleaning and when you can’t finish it (AND have another job to add to your list – fixing/replacing the vacuum) it’s rather perturbing.

There’s a few things you can easily check and take care of yourself that may save you from having to go out and acquire a shiny new machine – which is NOT cheap.

1          Check the brush height.

If the brush is set too high (for example, you’re going from deep shag carpet onto hardwood floors with the brushes set the same), all the suction in the world simple won’t be able to whisk up the wisps of dirt scattered around. Adjust the brush height to match your carpet’s pile or lack of.

2          Change the bag/chamber.

I know, I know – it sounds so simple and I can hear the steam building behind your ears that I even SUGGESTED this, but as someone who’s been there and done that (more than once, I’m ashamed to admit), it is worth double-checking you’ve got a clean and clear bag/chamber before you start laying into the vacuum for being utterly useless.

3          Check the hoses.

Often it’s not the vacuum-y part of the vacuum that’s at fault – it’s that table-tennis ball you accidentally sucked up on your last vacuuming run without realizing it. Yes, this step may involve screwdrivers and groveling on all fours, but at least you’ll know the pipes are clean and clear and ready for business.

4          The vacuum isn’t airtight.

Stands to reason – if a vacuum isn’t airtight, it can’t really create a….vacuum, can it? Dysons can be terrible offenders with this; if you didn’t make sure the trapdoor in your chamber snapped shut last time you emptied it, you could be heaving the vacuum around in a vain attempt to pick up debris, when all that needs to be done is to close its airtight seal to create a lovely sucky vacuum again.

5          The roller is clogged.

Ick. Yes I know – ghastly job. But flip that mischievous machine over on its behind and check for giant dustbunnies gumming up the works.

So there you go – my easy peasy checklist for fixing all your vacuumy woes.

Our clients have been loyal for over 40 years

I've used other local franchise companies in the past and the attention to detail was always lacking. BCS's attention to detail is consistently good, they show up when they say and their service is much more personal than the larger franchises. Happy with their job everytime.
