It used to be that cleaning the floors was super-easy – you simply retrieved your stick broom from the front porch and swept yourself out of the house. With the invention of luscious, glorious, soft-and-cosy carpet, life improved exponentially. Ahh, there’s nothing like the feeling of sinking your tootsies into the soft, deep pile of fabulous carpet. But cleaning it can feel like an overwhelming task when you’re confronted with a myriad of hose and vacuum attachments, gadgets and gizmos. Is there really ever a time you need to use a short, bendy hose attachment with a really skinny circle of brush bristles on the tip?

This week we’ll look at that trusty standby – the crevice cleaner.

How It Works: The angled tip helps this 8 to 12 inch long piece to grab debris from tight spots, like baseboard edges and under the front of the oven, the washer, and other appliances.

Other Ideas: Suction out smaller areas too. Clear dust from a doorjamb, dirt from a window track, cobwebs from corners, crumbs from car seats, and debris lodged in tufted upholstery. It’s also worth running the crevice tool along the perimeter of your carpets before you vacuum the main part of the room with the regular vacuum.
