Which Vacuum Attachment Should I Use? Extension Wand

October 20, 2016

It used to be that cleaning the floors was super-easy – you simply retrieved your stick broom from the front porch and swept yourself out of the house. With the invention of luscious, glorious, soft-and-cosy carpet, life improved exponentially. Ahh, there’s nothing like the feeling of sinking your tootsies into the soft, deep pile of fabulous carpet. But cleaning it can feel like an overwhelming task when you’re confronted with a myriad of hose and vacuum attachments, gadgets and gizmos. Is there really ever a time you need to use a short, bendy hose attachment with a really skinny circle of brush bristles on the tip?

In our epic 11-part series, we’ll demystify vacuum attachments and help you get the best look and wear out of your luscious carpets.

This week we’ll look at that trusty standby – the extension wand.

How It Works: Standard versions of this innocent-looking plastic tube add up to 18 inches to your upright vacuum’s hose, so you can reach high fan blades, light fixtures, air vents, door frames, or the tippy top of an especially tall piece of furniture – with no stepladder or countertop scaling required. It allows you to keep your arms close to your body, preventing strain and fatigue.

Other Ideas: Use it to recapture dropped coins or jewelry from between couch cushions. You can also stretch a piece of nylon panty hose over the opening to suck up small items and retrieve them without getting them stuck in the machine.

And there we have it – how to use your trusty extension wand.   Next week we’ll look at the ever-useful upholstery tool.

And, as always, if you find yourself presented with a carpet cleaning issue they just don’t make enough vacuum attachments for, give the professionals at BCS a call on 801 561 1730.

Why You Should Use A Professional Window Cleaner – Find The Real Cause of Spots

October 16, 2016

It’s only glass, right? We wipe down mirrors and glass table-tops in our home all the time, so why should windows get special treatment? In our six-part guide, you’ll discover the top reasons why you should always use a professional to restore your panes to their sparkling selves:

  1. Finding The Real Cause of Spots on Your Windows

Not sure why you keep getting strange spots on your glass? It’s possible your mulch could be the culprit. And no, I’m not joking.

Cheap mulches are often infested with a fungus called Shotgun Fungus. You just can’t make this stuff up. When it’s all grown-up, the fungus shoots out black spores that glue themselves to glass and vinyl siding and are very hard to remove completely. Who knew? We did, that’s who!

A professional window-cleaning service can pinpoint the root cause of the problem, and give you suggestions for preventing the icky spots in the future.

Why You Should Use A Professional Window Cleaner – Right Tools

October 6, 2016

It’s only glass, right? We wipe down mirrors and glass table-tops in our home all the time, so why should windows get special treatment? In our six-part guide, you’ll discover the top reasons why you should always use a professional to restore your panes to their sparkling selves:

  1. Providing the right window cleaning supplies and tools

Even glass has feelings! Professional window cleaners make sure that the right products are used to clean glass without damaging it.

If you have leaded or stained glass, you may be unintentionally damaging it by using an ammonia-based window cleaner. With repeated use, ammonia-based cleaner can lead to clouding of leaded and stained glass windows, and the damage can’t be repaired.

Professional window washers also have the right equipment, such as ladders and telescoping window-washing tools, to safely clean hard-to-reach windows. There’s a reason home-grown window washers prefer to blame black cats walking under ladders for them falling off!

4. Extends The Life of Your Windows
Old aluminum screens gradually etch a pattern of deposits on the glass over time, similar to lime deposits in the shower. The etched glass is not only ugly as sin, but it is also more prone to cracks and chips.
A professional window washer can restore the glass and extend your window’s life with special treatments and tools.
