How To Keep Newly-Installed Carpet Fresh & Clean

December 30, 2021

Newly-installed carpet is a joy to look at and walk on. How can you keep yours looking in tip-top shape for longer?

Follow our simple tips to get the most of your gorgeous new carpet:

1 Pretest any carpet cleaning product in an out-of-the-way area. If it doesn’t cause a reaction or change in carpet color, apply a small amount to a white cloth and blot. Then blot again with a clean white cloth and water. Never saturate a carpet with product – this can make it seem like the stain has disappeared but all it has really done is allow it penetrate down to the base of the carpet – over time it will work its way back up to the surface to present you with a forever-recurring stain. Only ever blot/spot-clean the surface or call in professional carpet cleaners to properly and completely remove the offending substance.

2 Rent a steam cleaner from somewhere like The Home Depot or Lowes and follow the instructions that come with each machine. Make sure to vacuum thoroughly before steam cleaning to avoid dampening and thus ingraining further the loose dirt and dust in your carpet.

3 For a more thorough and reliable deep clean, this job is one that is truly best-left to the professionals. Again, vacuum thoroughly before the cleaning crew arrives, but don’t worry about lugging furniture about to vacuum underneath – they’ll do that. The cleaning itself will be quick, but make sure to wear clean white socks (no shoes or bare feet) until the carpet is full dry (about 24 hours). If possible, try not to walk on your carpet at all until it is dry, especially if it is a deep pile – this will help your carpets fibers dry as plump as possible, rather than drying all squished-down from being walked on.

When your perfect new carpet needs its first big clean, call the professionals at BCS Cleaning Utah at 801 561 1730. We’ll bring out the big guns to have your carpet looking new again in no time!

Can I Walk On Carpet While It’s Wet?

December 23, 2021

Okay, your carpets are wet and you absolutely MUST get to the bathroom. So how do you get across your carpets without upsetting them?  Oooo you’re gonna love this solution – it’s easy, cheap AND helps the environment (sort of)!

Grocery bags! I kid you not, plastic grocery bags are a godsend for dealing with damp carpets. Put them on over your socks (or even over your shoes if you’re dashing in and dashing out) and tie the handles around your ankles. Leave a clutch of them by your front door so everyone can wear the latest designer fashion footwear around your drip-dry home.

Grocery bags are brilliant for this purpose – they work like snowshoes for carpet, distributing your weight somewhat so the carpet doesn’t get compressed in its damp state, while protecting the damp fibers from any dirt on your socks or shoes. Plus you can get around your house! Yay!

One important thing to note if you’re going to try this suggestion – plastic grocery bags are SLIPPY! So make sure you move slowly and hold on to something stable as you move around, especially if you have to get down stairs.

How Long Do Freshly-Washed Wet Carpets Take To Dry?

December 16, 2021

When you work from home or are simply AT home, it seems to take an age for carpets to dry.

Usually they will be completely bone-dry within 24 hours, but often they are usably dry within 4-6 hours, depending on the type of fibers in your carpet and how absorbent they are.

If you simply have to traverse your carpeted expanse before they are dry, use plastic grocery bags tied to your feet to protect your newly-preened flooring. Just take care not to rush about and make sure to hold on to something – plastic on feet can be quite slippy!

Your carpet cleaning specialist will be able to give you a more accurate assessment of your grocery-bag-gliding timescale.

3 Simple Steps To Remove Scuffs From Walls

December 9, 2021

If you’ve ever been to Home Depot for paint and had the paint chap try to up-sell you to the Uber-Pigment-Double-Primer-Easy-Wipe paint option that’s a mere $30 extra per gallon, and had the gall to stick to your guns and the cheaper paint option, you’re not alone. And well done, you!

And then six months later, when you discover a plethora of scuff marks all over your walls that (shockingly) don’t come off with soap and water, you kick yourself for not having made life easier on yourself and bought the super-upgraded paint option.

All is not lost, however! You’ve come to the right place. At BCS Cleaning Utah, we are experts on All Things Cleaning, and we have three easy-peasy solutions for all your wall scuffage issues.

  1. Mr Clean Magic Eraser sponges. If you’ve never used these, they are a GENIUS invention. Simply dampen the sponge and rub over scuffs, scratches, marks – basically any foreign body clinging to your walls – and watch them disappear.
  2. If you don’t have a Magic Eraser sponge or they’re against your principles or you’ve tried them and they didn’t work, non-gel toothpaste may be the magical solution to all your wall-related woes. Squeeze some onto a cloth, massage it over the scuff or stain, and then rinse and dry. Toothpaste is mildly abrasive, and the tiny little beads contained in each squirt will gently and evenly remove foreign bodies from your walls.
  3. If you’ve tried the above and neither worked, or for some reason BOTH are against your principles, try making a thick paste with baking soda and water. Apply it to the wall on a soft, clean cloth, massage into the mark and then rinse and dry.

How To Easily Remove Grease Oil From Stovetops

December 2, 2021

Grease and oil residue from cooking can seem like a nightmare to remove from cooking surfaces and vent hoods. But with our simple, unexpected tip, you’ll have both sparkling again in a jiffy!

To remove oil from vent hoods and cooking surfaces, cooking oil can work wonders. And yes, I know this concept sounds strange (to say the least), but oil is often the best substance to soften and lift existing oil.

Simply moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and rub the grease until it’s gone. Buff to a shine with a clean, soft cloth to remove any remaining residue.
