2 Little-Known Steps To Maintain Small Synthetic Rugs Between Cleanings

June 23, 2021

Synthetic fabric rugs are particularly masterful at hiding dirt, and this debris can actually damage the structure of the rug over time. Follow our simple steps to keeping all your synthetic, cotton, wool, small, large and installed carpets and rugs at the best between professional cleanings.

In this article, we’ll show you how to clean small, synthetic area rugs.

1   Synthetic rugs are among the easiest to clean, so if your rug is made from a synthetic material, rejoice! If your rug is particularly sturdy and machine woven, simply run it through the washing machine on a gentle cycle (easy peasy!) using normal washing detergent.

2   Hang it somewhere it will dry quickly to avoid stale water smells (outside is ideal, if possible).

3 Easy Steps To Maintain Large Area Rugs Between Cleanings

June 16, 2021

If you knew what horrors we at BCS have seen and how many pounds (eek!) of dirt and grime were lurking in your carpets, you might think before walking around barefoot. Wool rugs are particularly masterful at hiding dirt, and this debris can actually damage the structure of the rug over time. Follow our simple steps to keeping all your synthetic, cotton, wool, small, large and installed carpets and rugs at the best between professional cleanings.

In this article, we’ll show you how to clean larger area rugs.

1 You probably saw this coming, but the simple answer is firstly to hire a pro for a proper deep clean every few years. Larger rugs are by nature harder to clean thoroughly with home tools and products than smaller rugs, simply because they don’t fit in the sink or washing machine (duh), and even if they did, their size makes them difficult to place somewhere they can dry thoroughly and quickly. For this reason, spot-cleaning is the way to go in-between professional cleanings.

2 In between make sure to vacuum regularly and handle any spills as quickly as possible. If the dyes in your rug are colorfast, you can dampen the area with a clean sponge dipped in seltzer water, using as little liquid as possible. Blot with a white cotton cloth to prevent any color transference, then sandwich the stain between two towels and stand on top of the sandwich briefly to absorb as much moisture as possible.

3 If the dyes are NOT colorfast, use a mixture of four parts cold water and one part white vinegar to repeat the above process, or sprinkle cornstarch on top and vacuum after 24 hours. If you’re not confident of a good outcome with either of the above methods, call the professionals at BCS to make sure your rug is taken care of properly.

When your willpower and stamina for touchups is exhausted, call the professionals at BCS Cleaning Utah at 801 561 1730 to schedule your professional carpet and rug cleaning treatment. We’ll bring out the big guns to have your rugs and carpets looking professionally fabulous in no time.

7 Easy Steps To Remove Cat Urine Pee From Carpet

June 10, 2021

Oh dear, it’s that time of year again! You drift off to sleep only to be woken by Felix singing at the top of his lungs outside your window that he’s looking for a lady. And then when he doesn’t find her, he promptly comes home through the cat door and expresses his displeasure with the situation on the side of the couch. So what can you do to rescue your poor beleaguered couch and carpets from feline anointing?

If you’ve been out for a few hours, chances are that your kitty’s urine stain may have been sitting for a while. As soon as you discover it, it’s important to clean it right away. If you wait too long, on top of being straightforward nasty-looking, bacteria can start to grow in the affected area, which leads to nasty stinks.

Here’s one way to remove cat urine from carpet:

•Soak up the urine stain using paper towels or a cotton cloth. Press firmly into the stain using an old shoe or something disposable. This will help absorb as much urine as possible from the carpet.

•Using white vinegar and water, mix a solution in a bowl (50% vinegar, 50% water). You’ll want to mix enough of the solution so that it can reach deep down into the carpet’s fibers.

•Pour the solution onto the urine stain. Using a scrubbing brush, work all of it deeply into the carpet, scrubbing vigorously. The vinegar should help to neutralize the ammonia in the urine.

•Blot the urine stain using a paper towel, pressing firmly into it.

•When that section of the carpet is dry, take one to two handfuls of baking soda (depending on the size of the urine stain) and sprinkle it onto the stain.

•Mix one-half cup of three percent hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and apply to the stain. You can use the scrubbing brush again to thoroughly clean the carpet.

•Once dry, vacuum the area.

If you’ve done your level best and the stain or stink is still noticeable, give BCS a call at 801 561 1730 and have the professionals take care of it for you in a jiffy.

3 Easy Steps to Keep Installed Carpet Fresh & Clean

June 3, 2021

If you knew what horrors we at BCS have seen and how many pounds (eek!) of dirt and grime were lurking in your carpets, you’d be running to the phone right not to book your next deep-clean!

In this article, we’ll show you 3 easy steps for cleaning and maintaining wall-to-wall, installed carpets.

1 Pretest any carpet cleaning product in an out-of-the-way area. If it doesn’t cause a reaction or change in carpet color, apply a small amount to a white cloth and blot. Then blot again with a clean white cloth and water. Never saturate a carpet with product – this can make it seem like the stain has disappeared but all it has really done is allow it penetrate down to the base of the carpet – over time it will work its way back up to the surface to present you with a forever-recurring stain. Only ever blot/spot-clean the surface or call in professional carpet cleaners to properly and completely remove the offending substance.

2 Rent a steam cleaner from somewhere like The Home Depot or Lowes and follow the instructions that come with each machine. Make sure to vacuum thoroughly before steam cleaning to avoid dampening and thus ingraining further the loose dirt and dust in your carpet.

3 For a more thorough and reliable deep clean, this job is one that is truly best-left to the professionals. Again, vacuum thoroughly before the cleaning crew arrives, but don’t worry about lugging furniture about to vacuum underneath – they’ll do that. The cleaning itself will be quick, but make sure to wear clean white socks (no shoes or bare feet) until the carpet is full dry (about 24 hours). If possible, try not to walk on your carpet at all until it is dry, especially if it is a deep pile – this will help your carpets fibers dry as plump as possible, rather than drying all squished-down from being walked on.
