My Windows Were Just Cleaned – Now They’re Foggy Again! | BCS Cleaning Specialists

Oh no! Havoc! Mayhem! Disaster! There are few things more annoying than getting your car washed til it gleams – and then it promptly rains in the night and mucks it up again. Grr. Also on a par with droplet-encrusted cars are windows that were spic and span and gleaming yesterday – and the next morning are all fogged up and murky again.

What dastardly deeds are afoot here?  Should you call your window cleaning company this instant and demand justice?

Well, hang on a tick. Try this simple test first….

Try wiping your sleeve over a section of the fogged-up pane. Does it wipe off the damp? If it does, by all means give us a call and a piece of your mind.

However, if nothing changes – the pane is still fogged up and murky, there may be darker issues at play.

The vast majority of even semi-modern windows are double-paned. If window panes are badly installed or even just with time, the watertight seals around the pane degrade, allowing moisture to creek IN BETWEEN the panes. This moisture gets stuck inside the two panes – it has nowhere to go but up or down. During the night and early morning, when the weather is typically cooler, the moisture stays on the bottom of the panes, out of sight. When the weather warms up, the moisture warms up with it and starts to rise into the air as teeny tiny molecules, which all bunch together and plaster themselves against the cooler surface of the glass. And hey presto, you have murky, foggy glass.

But this issue can’t be fixed by even the most conscientious and detailed window cleaner; the only way to resolve it is to either replace the window pane with nice, new, working seals (after drying out the in-between bit), or replace the entire pane with an up-to-date panel.
